Carling Signs
(updated November 26, 2005)

In the state of Virginia, "lighted" non- paper bar signs were, and still are Illegal. Thanks to yard sales, trade shows, flea markets, antique shops, and now Ebay, I have collected a large and impressive variety of Carling Black Label signs. Many of these are from the late 1950's to Early 1970's. Like my can collection, most are not on display as I just don't have the room to display them. Yet, I am still collecting them. Don't they call this an obsession? If you ever see a Carling sign in your travels, PLEASE let me know!

This is the image from the 1973 fiber optic sign that i recently purchased off of Ebay. It changes colors and looks amazing ! Signs like this one aren't made anymore.

Below is a generic "pricer" sign that was used at retailers as a price or information board.
My sister-in-law free handed this one and is currently  hanging out in my work shed.

The oldest in my collection. Circa 1949...

This is a clock hanging in my football room....

This is a small plastic piece that is from the early 1950's....

This is a 1950's Christmas cardboard piece I purchased off Ebay last year....

The Holiday Man

One of my favorites....I purchased this one at the Blue-Grey show in 1985....

A different version of the same sign

I bought this one at a junk shop somewhere....

Sorry about the glare...I haven't mastered digital photography yet....

From the '70's ....

I love the 50's drive-in look of this one.

Another Ebay purchase. This one is in like-new condition.

This is a lighted "window sign"

This is a wood, metal, and plastic sign....looks rougher in person than in picture!

A small bartop sign

My wife added the foliage to this one

Interesting piece...center is like an old world ship's compass

This is a sign that goes below one of those "bar tv sets"
btw....thats my couch being used as a backdrop in most of these pictures !

This is a tabletop lamp...and yeah...that is a Coors Light tin sign in the background.

This is a "tiffany" lamp, temporarily hanging in our kitchen.

This sign has a paper front, with another add beneath of the "new" pewter can design

One of the many "state specific" signs.... this one being Georgia.

A G. Heileman era sign

There are many variations of this one

a small wall plaque

Another Heileman era sign

These two mounted to the top of cash registers.

Heileman era metal tacker

Heileman Counter Card

Metal wall tacker

Cardboard Mabel counter card

Another "state specific" sign. I think there was one for every state.

Heileman cardboard signs

Motion light that inside turns in circles.

I have many more signs in my father in laws garage that have been stored there for over 10 years. As I bring them out a few at a time and clean them up I will post them on here.....stay tuned!
